Introducing Wakelet’s new look – and logo!
We’ve made a few changes around here! Check out our new look and find out why we decided to refresh our logo and branding
What do you think of our new look?
You might have noticed that things look a little different around here.
We’ve been working hard over the last few months and now we’re ready to reveal Wakelet’s new branding and logo!
Then and now
Wakelet has had a few different looks since our launch in 2014. Our most recent focused on two colors – blue and green – which were chosen to represent the wakes made by boats and planes that Wakelet takes its name from. But, as time went on, our branding didn’t really reflect the diverse, vibrant, human platform that Wakelet has become as well as we wanted it to.
“There were a lot of things about Wakelet’s old branding that we liked,” said Rick Butterworth, Wakelet’s UX/UI Designer. “The clean design, its readability, our wave-inspired logo, and more. However, as Wakelet has evolved, added new features and attracted a diverse group of users, we wanted our branding to better represent the many creative ways that people around the world are using us. With this redesign, we aimed to retain those aspects of Wakelet that everyone knows and loves, but also inject a bit more fun, color, and energy into the site.”
“Trying to innovate and introduce new styles to the Wakelet branding while pigeonholed by a very limited set of brand elements has been really challenging. We were left with a brand that was inefficient to reproduce, confusing for users, and ultimately didn’t represent Wakelet’s ability to enrich people’s lives,” Finlay Thorburn, our Product Designer explained. “As much as this project gave us a much-needed opportunity to take a step back and introduce a consistent brand that represented Wakelet, it also allowed us to build a brand that was efficient to implement, scalable and adaptive to our ongoing evolution.”
The new branding will appear across Wakelet; look out for it on our homepage, our landing pages, our social media channels, and our swag!
Creating Wakelet‘s new look
It was important to us that Wakelet’s new look echoed our company’s vision and values. Our mission is to help people organize the Internet and people are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why you’ll see people’s faces throughout the platform; our team, and our users – we wanted to put people front and center.
We also looked to our users when looking at the color palettes and design principles at play. We considered the words people often associate with Wakelet: fun, creative, helpful, open, and versatile came up often. Those are words we try to live by in our office too. It made sense for us to embrace that sense of fun and creativity by expanding and brightening our color palette and using organic shapes across the site.
“With the introduction of color and vibrancy, we’ve also focused on improving the user experience,” said Rick. “There’s still plenty of white space – a blank canvas inviting you to create – the font is clear and easy to read, and we’re still honoring the Wakelet Wave in various styles and within the logo.”
